Deep Cove Daze 2009 - Carribean Cove

DEEP COVE DAZE 2009

Organizing this event, took only four months. There was so much to think about and so much that could only be done days before the event, if not on the night before. This was also one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

I learned so much about myself. Like what happens when I get really stressed out and how I deal with other people on a professional level.

Alina Wilson was my partner in crime for organizing and she was amazing! She worked he butt off everyday of the week.

On the day of the event, it was an amazing sunny day, the park was packed with people and the Beer Garden was at max capacity.

The volunteers were working so hard to fill all of the empty shifts. I am truly grateful for their help and I will never forget it.

The musical performances were amazing. Stef Lang, Giraffe Aftermath, Satori Tide and Ghost Brothers; the crowd loved them all! Stef Lang's vocals and lyrics have always been my favourite about her music. Lots of people on the day of the event were telling me that they loved Giraffe Aftermath. Satori Tide were doing their thing that sounds so good! Ghost Brothers sounded amazing and went hand-in-hand with our island theme.

I never got a chance to see how the Children's Stage was doing during the whole event. But every time I looked over it was packed, sometimes even over capacity. Everyone was saying that the Deep Cove Daze Idol and Capoeria were awesome.

All of the work myself, Alina, Tyler, Staff of Deep Cove Music and DCM Studios and the volunteers really paid off. The event just turned out so amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better day.

It was the most amazing day of my life.

These photos were taken by David Tam and Patricia Binga.

sloths!

Hey!
So right now I am working on my term project that is about the conservation status of sloths. Sloths are awesome! They are insanely cute when they are young, and very funny creatures. They are known for their lack of actual movement and their long sleep habits. They are from the amazonian rainforest. Only one of the species is classified as endangered, the maned sloth (three toes). How many toes does the one in the picture have?
One "sloth" is the sloth bear. But that is not a true sloth. It is actually a bear with sloth-like nails so that is how they got their name.
I wanted to do sloths for my assignment because there is little research on them and I was trying to get away from the "hot topics" in conservation biology.
I hope you enjoyed my little tid-bit on sloths! Have a wonderful day!

Hello!

Hmm... adding this photo didn't work out the way I wanted to. Oh well. I will try harder next time. I wanted the photo to be at the top... maybe it will be when I post this post.

Well onto what I want to talk about. Well I don't exactly know what I want to talk about.

Hmm....

Today in class we talked about the relationship between species richness and area available for species to live in and climate change. Species should be migrating to where the conditions and climate are suitable for them to live, right? So what is stopping them? Well there are the many changes that humans have been doing to the landscape. Like when the ice from the ice age was receding species (the example we looked at was spruce trees) moved with the ice. It only took just over 20,000 years to do that. But now it will be hard for species of any sort to migrate because they have to move around agriculture lands, urban areas, just things that wouldn't have been there thousands of years ago. I just thought was very interesting. And I thought I would share that with you.

Also this week has been insanely busy for me. I am having a hard time finding time to eat. But I guess I shouldn't be doing things like posting a blog when I have things to do. But I would insane if I didn't do my time waster things. Oh well. But I am excited for the weekend! Whistler is going to be epic! I can't wait to see my best friend! I miss her. Last summer we saw each other almost everyday. It was awesome! Ooh.... that reminds me, I hope she wants to play on our football (American football) team again this summer. I must recommend this to you (the reader) join an URBAN REC sport. They are an amazing intramural league company providing sports leagues to the Vancouver region and I know they are hoping to expand that into the lower mainland, I think. So join a sport, make some friends, and have a good time!

I gave up alcohol for lent. I am not religious in any sense, I just try it every year to better myself in some shape or form. I also try to give up something that I think is not good for me. Like last year I gave up swearing and McDonald's. I didn't do very well at the swearing part, but at least I was realizing when I was swearing, so now I don't swear as much. And the McDonald's thing was wreck when I decided to go to Whistler. This year I am giving up alcohol. And I will be breaking that this weekend for the Girls Whistler trip, and UBC REC Spring formal. Those are two events I can't miss out on. But I will be missing out on St. Patrick's Day and the three UBC Ski and board Club events I wanted to go to, and the end of Storm the Wall celebration. BOOOOOO! Well, maybe I will better myself. I am mostly doing it to see if I lose weight and save some money. Hopefully I will be able to do it.

Well I better wrap this up! I will talk about more random things, when random things happen.

Have a great day! And best wishes!

I am very tired!I

Hey there!

So the day after my crazy UBC Ski and Board Trip, I am still very tired. VERY TIRED! As my friend Kira witnessed while I was trying to study in the library today when I had a twenty minute nap. We both expressed that we felt we are floating on clouds today, that we are dizzy but not really at the same time and are were both having difficulties writing. This is all the effect of the UBC SKI AND BOARD READING BREAK TRIP!!!!

It was a really fun trip! I finially snowboarded Whitewater and Revelstoke! I was really impressed with the snow on Whitewater. The first day it had a big dump of snow, so all the way up to lunch time at about one we were cutting fresh tracks... AMAZING!!! Then on the second day about a dozen or so of us hiked for about an hour and got some amazing S-turns in. SO MUCH FUN!!! Then there was the hot springs, which was really nice and relaxing. Then that night I got a fever. For the next two days I was bed-bond with fevers, coughs and sniffles. NOT FUN! But I still pushed it and went out partying breifly that last night, had some fun. And then the next day I was still able to do some riding on Revelstoke. Revelstoke would be an amazing mountain if it had more snow. I told myself the next time there is a big dump of powder (probably won't be until next season) I will go and stay up there for a couple days and ride it out. That is an amazing mountain, and soon the whole world will know about it.

I have so many more stories than what I have presented to you, this is the PG, very, very short version, sorry. But if you wish to know more, just ask me. There are plenty of stories. It was an amazing trip, a lot of fun and I think I have made friends with people I will stay friends with.

I am lovin' it!

Tonight I am going to witness my girlfriend embarrass herself by being "Robyn Sparkles". It will be.... entertaining.

Hope all is well!
Best wishes!

Boring....

Hey!

So tomorrow I am off on a very exciting adventure of snow, riding, lack of sleep, sore muscles and lots of booze! I am off on the UBC Ski and Board CLub Reading week trip to White Water and Revelstoke! I can't wait to get some serious powder riding in! I have never ridden either of these mountains and I am really looking forward to them. I am also really looking forward to the my roomies! It is going to be a blast!

I know my posts have serious lack of substance right now, but soon that will change and I will update you on all the exciting things in my life. No worries it will be fun times.

Well the one person who will be reading this is the one person who knows everything going on in my life.... I heart you baby!!! But to those of you who just happen to come across my as-of-right-now-boring-blog, I will make it more interesting with opinions, pictures (maybe videos), and events in my life. But you need to be able to write in HTML language to add stuff right? Well then you may only get opinions and events in this blog, haha!

HAHAHA! oh wait... I can add photos and videos and stuff... wow I am amazing!

Thanks for checking in!

Have a fabulous evening, a great week and a fun weekend!!
